Sometimes its mot possible to work doing what you love, but you are almost always guaranteed to be able to volunteer to do something that you love. Here are some places I am currently volunteering for, as well as those that I have had the honor of devoting my time to in the past.
Archive Experience
Piedmont Blues Preservation Society, Greensboro, NC
Executive Board member and Archivist (non-profit)

Spearheaded the planning and development of a comprehensive database and organizational system to manage a diverse collection of paper, audio, digital, and visual media.

Conducted research and contributed to grant writing efforts for events and initiatives related to the Society’s mission and archive preservation.

Actively participated in meetings, committees, and events, supporting the Society's outreach and preservation goals.

Archives volunteer

Organized and cataloged manuscripts and photographic negatives, including the creation and correction of finding aids and descriptive metadata.

Digitization of audio reels and audiocassettes, enhancing the accessibility of archival materials.

Conducted research and supported the limited processing of over five collections, contributing to improved archival organization and preservation.

Processed manuscript and photo collections such as the Maco Beauty Collection, various film collections, and other oral histories.

Managed the processing, organizing, and rehousing the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Greensboro collection, consisting of five boxes containing scrapbooks, yearbooks, annual reports, newsletters, pamphlets, letters, newspaper clippings, and official documents.

Created detailed finding aids to facilitate easier access and retrieval of materials.

Cumulus Broadcasting Wilmington, NC

Learned about each of the 5 radio stations in the cluster – including demographic, advertisers, genre and playlists, types of events, and station managers and other staff.

Conducted interviews with all of the department heads, including the news, promotion, sports, production, and sales; as well as station managers and the general manager of the cluster.

Composed and recording an ad for the station.

Came up with original ideas for promotion for the various stations.

Learned about promotions, sales, and production as applied to the cluster.

Was present at various local events and represented the station, assisted DJs, and talked to listeners.

Compiled all data received and experiences into a comprehensive packet.

Cucalorus Film Festival Wilmington, NC

Watched and voted on submissions to the festival.

Entered of submissions into the Cucalorus film database.

Created and put together bags for filmmakers, and helped with the promotion of the festival.

Worked festival shifts including set up, decoration, ticket booth, and ushering

Interacted with filmmakers, guests, actors, and other volunteers.

Creation of a paper upon completion of internship, which was given to both Cucalorus and the Film Studies department of UNCW.
